Yeshua NEVER said in order to follow him one needed to say a prayer in one’s heart. He said, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men!” As Yeshua walked by Lake Kinneret he invited those to follow him and become his Talmidim.

Matthew 4:18-25 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

18 “As Yeshua walked by Lake Kinneret, he saw two brothers who were fishermen — Shim‘on, known as Kefa, and his brother Andrew — throwing their net into the lake. 19 Yeshua said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men!” 20 At once they left their nets and went with him. 21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers — Ya’akov Ben-Zavdai and Yochanan his brother — in the boat with their father Zavdai, repairing their nets; and he called them. 22 At once they left the boat and their father and went with Yeshua. 23 Yeshua went all over the Galil teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing people from every kind of disease and sickness. 24 Word of him spread throughout all Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill, suffering from various diseases and pains, and those held in the power of demons, and epileptics and paralytics; and he healed them. 25 Huge crowds followed him from the Galil, the Ten Towns, Yerushalayim, Y’hudah, and ‘Ever-HaYarden.”

So, if there was a “prayer” to be said, then the scriptures would be very clear on that subject. A prayer would seem like a good idea, however, saying a “prayer” and nothing more, releases the one saying the prayer from the responsibility of becoming a Talmid (Disciple). One would say that a verbal declaration is good enough, whether in one’s own heart or aloud. The sincerest form of prayer to follow Yeshua is accepted, yet this seems to be, in many cases, the end and beginning of one’s halakhah. A small simple prayer may be a declaration that one will become a Talmid (Disciple) of Yeshua HaMashiach.

The Talmidim (Disciples)

Talmidim would “Yoke” to a Rabbi, submit one’s self to the Rabbi for instruction.

“be covered with the dust of his feet” because the talmid followed so closely. This is considered On The Job Training (OJT).

Followed, learned, imitated, devoted one’s self to study of Torah with instruction from the Rabbi.

“Come after me,” is a verb. There are many stories where Yeshua is encouraging those to follow him. Some did not follow him even after the “invitation” because of the condition of their hearts.

Not trusting.

Hebrews 4:2-4 (CJB)

2 “for Good News has also been proclaimed to us, just as it was to them*. But the message they heard didn’t do them any good, because those who heard it did not combine it with trust. 3 For it is we who have trusted who enter the rest. It is just as he said, “And in my anger, I swore that they would not enter my rest.”

He swore this even though his works have been in existence since the founding of the universe. 4 For there is a place where it is said, concerning the seventh day,

“And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”

*”To them” referring to those who were wandering in the desert for 40 years.

Footnotes:

Hebrews 4:3 Psalm 95:11

Hebrews 4:4 Genesis 2:2

Hebrews 11:5-6 (CJB)

5 “By trusting, Hanokh was taken away from this life without seeing death — “He was not to be found, because God took him away” — for he has been attested as having been, prior to being taken away, well pleasing to God. 6 And without trusting, it is impossible to be well pleasing to God, because whoever approaches him must trust that he does exist and that he becomes a Rewarder to those who seek him out.”

To be selected as a talmid of a leading Rabbi is a great honor. Wisdom of the Torah and halakhah are transferred to the talmid after years of teaching and on the job training, so that one day the talmid will have his own talmidim. The word “halakhah” is usually translated “the path that one walks.” The word is derived from the Hebrew root Hei-Lamed-Kaf, meaning to go, to walk or to travel. Thus duplicating and perpetuating halakhah. At the heart of halakhah is the unchangeable 613 mitzvot (commandments) that G-d gave to the Jewish people in the Torah (the first five books of the Bible).

Talmid of Yeshua HaMashiach.

Matthew 16:24-27 (CJB)

24 “Then Yeshua told his talmidim, “If anyone wants to come after me, let him say ‘No’ to himself, take up his execution-stake, and keep following me. 25 For whoever wants to save his own life will destroy it, but whoever destroys his life for my sake will find it. 26 What good will it do someone if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or, what can a person give in exchange for his life? 27 For the Son of Man will come in his Father’s glory, with his angels; and then he will repay everyone according to his conduct.“

Matthew 28:18-20 (CJB)

18 “Yeshua came and talked with them*. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, go and make people from all nations into talmidim, immersing them into the reality of the Father, the Son and the Ruach HaKodesh, 20 andteaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember! I will be with you always, yes, even until the end of the age.”*referring to His talmidim.”Come after me,” an invitation to all nations to become talmidim, grounded in the halakhah of Yeshua HaMashiach.

Shalom Friends,

I’m writing you from Southern California where I’m ministering at Kehilat Ariel Messianic Congregation. God’s creation is portrayed in an exquisite manner and it really is a blessing to serve Him here in the San Diego area. Thank you for your support and prayers as I seek to serve God in my internship. I am enjoying my learning experience with Rabbi Barney Kasdan as I discover more the Jewish roots of our Bible and faith. Thank you for your continued support and prayers!

Mid-February we celebrated Purim a traditional festival celebrating Israel’s victory in the book of Esther. In the Bible, Esther (whose Hebrew name was Hadassah) boldly approached King Ahasuerus (Artaxerxes) and revealed that Haman planned to murder the Jewish people who were living in Persia. No one was allowed to approach the king uninvited and the punishment was execution. She asked that the Jewish people pray and fast for three days. Miraculously the king received her. She invited him to a banquet at which she invited him to a second banquet. There she revealed her Jewish identity and Haman’s plot. Haman was executed on the very gallows he planned to kill Mordecai, her uncle on. The story retells how God delivered the Jewish people. Ironically, God is not mentioned in the story. However, His providence is clear throughout the story as He works behind the scenes to redeem the Jewish nation. Today Purim is celebrated by reading the Megilla, the Hebrew scroll of the book of Esther, dressing in costumes, exchanging gifts, and eating triangle shaped fruit filled cookies called Hamantaschen (Haman’s hats).

The second week of February I attended a Messianic conference in Orange County, The Messianic Jewish Alliance of America Southwest Regional Conference (MJAA). At the conference I was reminded that when things seem most hopeless, God is still sovereign. He asks us to maintain faith in Him for He is still on the throne. I was also able to network with many other ministries laboring in the Jewish mission field. How exciting to see how God has raised up ministries around the world to also bring the message of my people’s Messiah to them. God is bringing Jewish people into the Kingdom and I am so excited to be a part of it!

I also have an announcement! Our name: “Tamar Ministries Outreach“ has been changed to “TheMessianicWoman.” After much prayer and counsel, I truly felt God directing my ministry to engage Jewish women. Our hope is to effectively establish a biblical perspective of God’s heart for today’s generation! Our vision states: TheMessianicWoman is dedicated to bringing the gospel to the Jewish people, reaching women, “bridging the gap” between Israel and the Nations, and calling all believers to prepare spiritually for Messiah’s return.

Thank you for walking with us! With that being said, please feel free to check out our new fundraising site by clicking here:and visit our website here:

Friends- Thank you for your continued support and prayers for TheMessianicWoman. Please remember to pray for: (1) The Jewish people as they seek redemption, salvation and protection (2) TMW as we plan our direction during this year in San Diego. (3) That there would be spiritual fruit and wisdom gained from this year internship at Kehilat Ariel with the messianic Rabbi and community (4) May the heart of Shafi, a Jewish man I met be opened to the truth of the Messiah and may he come to salvation. Through your prayers and financial support you are partners with me in this exciting work! Please send in your gracious donation by mail to the address at the footer made out to TheMessianicWoman or donate online at:

Thank you again for your continuous prayer, support, and partnership!
Please let me know how I can pray for you.

Special Note: All services are free but reservations are required for all Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services for non-members of KA.

Call the KA office to reserve your seats and invite a Jewish friend.

Sept 16, Sunday, 8:00 pm. Erev Rosh Hashanah Service. Usher in the spiritual New Year celebrating the goodness of Messiah! This will be a traditional service including the sounding of the shofar (ram’s horn) and a message on the importance of the holiday for all believers in Yeshua.

Sept 17, Monday, 10:30 am. Rosh Hashanah Morning Service. We will continue in prayer and meditation at this traditional service.

Sept 17, Monday, 4:00 pm. Tashlich Service at La Jolla Shores. Join us for this beautiful time as we cast bread crumbs into the sea to remind us of the important truths of the High Holiday season, “Thou will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” (Micah 7:19). We will also have an immersion service for new believers in Messiah. Bring your own dinner (and bread crumbs) and meet us on the grassy area by the main lifeguard tower.

Sept 25, Tuesday, 7:30 pm. Erev Yom Kippur/Kol Nidre Service. We will have a special assembly for this holiest day of the biblical calendar. We will enter into the congregational fast starting sundown Tuesday through sundown Wednesday as we pray for our spiritual lives and for our people of Israel.

Special Note: In the spirit of “tzedakah”(helping others), we are suggesting that all worshipers bring to service some package food items or a check donation which will in turn be given to help some needy families through Jewish Family Service. It would be fitting to donate the value of the amount which we would normally would have eaten when not fasting.

Sept 26, Wednesday, 10:30 am Yom Kippur Morning Service. We will continue in prayer and fasting at this traditional service.

Sept 26, Wednesday, 5:30 pm. Neilah Service. The closing service followed by a potluck at 6:30 pm to break the fast. Bring your favorite dish to share with all.

Oct 6, Saturday, 10:30 am. Sukkot Service. Join us for this exciting praise service as we celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. We will be able to have Kiddush in the Sukkah and there will be a great time of Davidic worship and praise. There will also be a special message on the significance of the holy day for all believers in Messiah. Followed by a Youth Hosted Luncheon with donations going to their mitzvah projects.

Oct 8, Monday, 7:00 pm. Simchat Torah Service. This will be a fitting close to the fall Holy Days as we “rejoice in the Torah.” There will be plenty of music and dance as we celebrate God’s gift of the Word. Also a special Adult Bnai Mitzvah participants will be leading the service.

Special Note: All services are free but reservations are required for all Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services for non-members of KA.

Call the KA office to reserve your seats and invite a Jewish friend.
